Report: Whyteleafe 2-1 Sittingbourne
Whyteleafe climbed to 6th place, just outside the play off places on goal difference, with their fourth consecutive victory. Leafe's only worry after the game will be injuries, having been forced to use all 3 substitutes early in the second half, they ended the game with Corey Holder a virtual passenger and Junior Aikhionbare struggling with an injury.
The game started slowly. The first real chance fell to Leafe in the 19th minute. A strong run down the right from Freddy Parker saw him square the ball in front of goal to Martin Sontan, but Ben Fitchett did well to block his shot.
The hosts took the lead in the 23rd minute. Corey Holder found Sontan in the box. He flicked it on to leading scorer Ronald Sobowale who made no mistake from close range.
Sittingbourne's equaliser followed 7 minutes later, Christopher Barnard scoring from close range. Leafe did have one more chance in the first half, Parker heading over from a Holder cross. Joshua Oliver had a good chance at the start of the second half. His shot from the edge of the box forced a good save from Tyler McCarthy.
Leafe were forced to make 3 changes due to injuries and by the 53rd minute had all 3 subs on the pitch. Holder then picked up an injury and was moved to centre forward but could not run, and with Aikhionbare also taking a couple of strong challenges, Leafe were struggling to create chances and the game became a bit niggly.
There was however one bright light in the second half in the form of Corey Andrews. He was a constant threat on the left of the park and was the most likely player to produce a winner. In the 85th minute Andrews made a strong run down the left, cut inside to the box and his shot was tipped over by Jordan Perrin. A similar move from the same player in the 88th minute saw him shoot over the bar.
The game seemed to be heading for a draw but Andrews wasn't finished. Another run from Andrews saw him break clear, his shot beat Perrin but hit the far post. Andrews was quickest to react and fired the rebound into the back of the net to strengthen Leafe's push for a play off place.
