Report: Whyteleafe 3-2 Ramsgate

Whyteleafe took all 3 points against struggling Ramsgate, a much needed win in their quest for a play off place with all of the top 8 sides winning.

Leafe got off to a great start, taking a 4th minute lead when Andrew Sesay shot past Charlie Burns following a good through ball from Freddy Parker. Sesay looks to be a great signing having scored in both of his matches since signing from Three Bridges and as well as an eye for goal, his pace and skill were a constant threat to the visitors defence.

After such a good start, Leafe had 6 minutes of madness when defensive mistakes cost them dearly, conceding twice and almost 3 times with the woodwork coming to the rescue. Tyler McCarthy was put under great pressure with a poor back pass, and his attempted clearance was blocked by Thomas Chapman who then shot home from close range.

By the 9th minute Chapman had put the Rams in front, this time McCarthy saved from Jude Arthurs but Chapman was first to the loose ball to slot home, yet another ball given away in front of goal saw Bentley Graham bring down Kane Rowland. Ashley Miller hit the post from the resultant free kick.

Leafe then settled down and put those events behind them and gradually took control of the game.  Corey Andrews equalised in the 25th minute with a header from a Ryan Gondoh cross. Leafe were on top for the rest of the half, with Andrews forcing a good save from Burns and Graham shooting just over the bar.

The second half belonged very much to Leafe and it seemed likely that they would avenge their earlier defeat at Ramsgate. Sesay went close with a 48th minute volley after Freddy Parker found him with a header across the box.

Leafe got a deserved winner in the 55th minute when Ramsgate attempted to play the ball out from the back, but Bentley Graham intercepted a pass, found Parker on the edge of the box and he fired the ball into the top corner of the net.

Sesay looked odds on to score when he broke clear in the 66th minute, Burns did well to come out and block his shot, but Sesay following up put the ball past the keeper but Giorgio Russo made a great clearance off the line. Ramsgate only had one shot at goal in the second half, a crisp volley from Chapman looking for his hat trick, but McCarthy did well to hold onto it.

Leading scorer Ronald Sobowale came on for the final 10 minutes, and with virtually his first chance, he won the ball and found Parker on the edge of the box but Burns made a good save.

Leafe held on comfortably for the victory, the scoreline was close because of the early mistakes but Harry Hudson's team have a lot of self belief and despite going behind always looked as though they would end up as winners.
