WHYTELEAFE 0 - 2 KINGSTONIAN
Tuesday 25th February 2009
Ryman League Division 1 South

Whyteleafe put on a good display against league leaders Kingstonian the visitors, who look destined for promotion, were just too strong.

The visitors had the first good chance of the match when Carl Wilson-Denis made a strong run down the right. His deflected cross was just out of reach of Bobby Traynor and NJ Lampton who were unmarked in the box. Seven minutes later Lampton was again found unmarked in the box but blasted his shot high and wide.

'Leafe's first good chance came in the 25th minute when, following a great run by Rob Smith, he picked out Richard Dimmock on the edge of the box but he shot well wide. Three minutes later Dimmock was brought down 25 yards out. Andy Martin took the free kick but struck it straight at Luke Garrard.

Simon Huckle then wasted a good chance when Wilson-Denis put him through.

In the 34th minute Tommy Williams was booked for a late tackle on Smith. From the resultant free kick, Ellis Conroy's shot was blocked and Asher Hudson hit the rebound wide. Garrard then miss-hit a clearance to Hudson whose cross hit a Kingstonian defender on the arm but any claims for a penalty were dismissed. Hudson then sent Conroy down the right and his dangerous cross was headed over his own bar under pressure by Adam Thompson.

Kingstonian took the lead in the 43rd minute when Wilson-Denis scored an unlikely goal, managing to lob the giant keeper O'Hara with a well struck dipping volley with the keeper off his line. O'Hara prevented the visitors going further ahead on the stroke of half time when he saved well with his feet to deny Traynor.

'Leafe started the second half brightly. Jason Goodchild made a penetrating run at the Kingstonian defence in the 49th minute, passing to Dimmock who shot over the bar. Hudson then made a good run down the right; his cross found Dimmock whose shot this time was blocked.

At the other end Lampton forced a great save from O'Hara, tipping over the bar at full stretch.

In the 57th minute, Alhajie Jabbie put Martin through. He played a one-two with Goodchild but shot wide.

In the 65th minute Kingstonian went two up. Wilson-Denis beat the offside trap and coolly chipped over the out-rushing O'Hara into the empty net. In what was an otherwise clean game, the only player to be booked, Tommy Williams, was lucky to escape a second yellow, receiving a strong lecture from the referee for a poor challenge on Smith. With the game now virtually safe, visiting manager Alan Dowson sensibly immediately substituted him.

Whyteleafe had one good further chance when Martin forced a good save from Garrard but Kingstonian were worthy winners.

Whyteleafe: O'Hara, Hudson, Jabbie (Williams 70), Reeve, Broomhead, Conroy, Gray, Smith, Martin, Dimmock (McKenzie 59), Goodchild.
