Kingstonian 3 Whyteleafe 0
Ryman League Division 1 South
Saturday 23rd August 2008

Whyteleafe's disappointing start to the new league campaign continued with a heavy defeat at Kingstonian, the scoreline barely reflecting the dominance of the home side as the 'Leafe failed to create a worthwhile shot on goal.

The opening 30 minutes were fairly even with an early Tommy Williams shot well held by visiting keeper Rob Tolfrey before Dean Lodge sent two fierce shots high and wide when well placed to test Tolfrey once again. Just before half-time it was Tolfrey who kept the score at 0-0 with a brilliant double save low to his right to deny Williams again.

Kingstonian took the lead on the hour when an unmarked Tony Bedeau met a free kick at the far post to lash the ball home. Shortly after 'Leafe full-back Steve McNamara was dismissed for a second yellow card offence and the hosts took full advantage with Tolfrey again saving brilliantly before Bobby Traynor slotted home the second after Jason Goodchild had carelessly given the ball away in midfield.

Only Tolfrey kept the K's in check with a magnificent save from a Williams flying header, tipping the ball over the bar before substitute Paul Williams scored a third late on, firing home in a crowded box. The home side were now attacking at will, a further goal ruled out for offside and twice crashing the ball against Tolfrey's crossbar during time added on, before the referee's whistle spared the Leafe from any more pain.

Manager Stuart Massey was left to ponder how to turn around his team's dramatic loss of confidence and goal-scoring ability ahead of Monday's home clash with fellow strugglers Corinthian Casuals.
